As we all knew would happen, both the Texans and Falcons lost this Sunday to guarantee the Bengals could not pick any higher than fifth in this year's upcoming draft. And the Bengals did their part, too. They rested a few starters on defense and got destroyed 38-3 by the Baltimore Ravens, locking up that fifth spot. So that's where things sit. The Bengals' most pressing need is at offensive line, and while it may be true that first round picks (especially with the Bengals) don't always pan out, getting someone the likes of Sewell would be ideal. Disagree all you want, but Sewell could very well be the next Anthony Munoz if he falls to the Bengals at number 5. NFL Draft experts such as Mel Kiper don't seem to think he'll be available at 5, but we can hope. If not, Notre Dame has produced many good NFL caliber linemen, and this year Liam Eichenberg seems to be following in his predecessors footsteps. Either way, the Bengals should be focusing on the line come April 29th.
But this will all be discussed at greater length in the months to follow. For now, let's rejoice in the fact that we made it through the entire 2020 NFL season, despite COVID-19 doing its best to prevent that from happening. Let's be honest, the NFL is King, and we all knew they would stop at nothing to have a full season, no matter how many Tuesday games they had to have. I'd say some, if not most, football fans enjoyed it even more. More football is never a bad thing to have.
At the end of the day, 4-11-1 is not how we wanted the Bengals to finish their season. But Joe Burrow will be back in 2021 (hopefully by the start, it's happened before), and let's hope he's a little pissed off, too. I'd like to see an angry Burrow, even more determined to win than ever. For now, though, let's pray his recovery continues to progress in the right direction and some necessary and appropriate changes are made this off-season. Until then, as always, Who-Dey!
